Lot 126
This is a very good piece ...and a piece of history. The Clunies Ross Family ran as ruler of the Cocos slands for over 150 years using Islanders and malay farmers to produce and export nuts, coconuts etc. The Australian Government got little testy with them around 1978 and threatened expropriation such that the Clunies Ross Family ended up selling their claimed rights over the islands to the Australian Government and moving to Perth. This is a coconut idded vessel with Hallmarked sterling mounts and is leather lined. It was made as a gift to a JW Black.... this is Australian History
