Description:

Early Rudyard Kipling Book Set w/ Swastika c1917-1937
This is an interesting set of 10 Early 20th century Rudyard Kipling Publications. Rudyard Kipling used the Swastika as his personal logo throughout his life. The word swastika comes from the Sanskrit svastika, which means "good fortune" or "well-being" "lucky" or "auspicious." To this day it is a sacred symbol in Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. So Rudyard thought it an awesome idea to place it on the cover of his Books, right above the head of his Elephant logo. This book series ranges from 1917 through to 1937. You will notice the Swaztika features on the cover of nine of these books but the last (and latest published book) is published in 1937 and the UK Publishing house seeing the Rise of Hitler and their use of the Swastika persuaded Rudyard to leave the swastika off the cover of his books for that year and going forward. Good Move :)
This is an historical set of Rudyard Kipling Books with incredible social Statement regards his use of the swastika. This book set if you can find them complete (which you won't) is $2,000-$3000... this is publishing history here folks. Each book measures 17.5cm by 11.5cm
