A Gendarmerie Alpinist Nazi Police Award 1938
This award was given to Ordnungspolizei members who were proficient in skiing and mountaineering. These badges were originally an Austrian award and produced by Klein in Vienna. After the Anschluss in 1938, the Austrian Wappen (Coat of Arms) was replaced by the Nazi Eagle and Swastika, which was usually soldered or riveted over the top. After the Anschluss these badges were manufactured without the Wappen entirely. This is an old and well used badge. This sure looks original and it does look like the swastika and eagle was soldered over the top, as on the back you can see the remnants of the Klein makers name. It measures 67mm long. A Genuine piece in my books !
