A Vintage Sepik River Slit Drum - PNG Oceanic Artefact
This is a very interesting Papua New Guinea Tribal Piece. It is called a Slit Drum or a Garamut Drum, and it is from the coastal Sepik River area of Papua New Guinea. These drums range from very ornate carved to simple like this one. They were used during traditional ceremonies, and also often used to convey messages to neighbouring villages. This one has its beating stick and makes a great tribal sound. It measures approx 33cm wide by approx 10cm high (not inc the beating stick)
