An Ancient Tibetan Fertility Horn c1840
The intention of this piece is shrouded in mystery as to its use. This concept though of a fertility horn goes back to Venus of Laussell which was a limestone carving found in France done 20,000 years ago. This carving showed an image of a fertility goddess blowing a horn. Now fast forward 200 years ago to Tibet and this fertility horn has been expertly made in Bronze and brass. It certainly seems to in the image of male genitalia, it is inset with what appears to be coral, and is incredibly detailed.
The patina screams age and authenticity, i think this is a sleeper.
It measures almost 40cm long
