FLTLT Geoff "Tex" Bryant in Memoriam - His Desk Personal Effects
There is much to tell, but i must be short. Lieutenant Geoff Bryant was the only son of our vendor Lady Beverley Durrant. He entered the Air force in 1983 and rose to become one of Australias FA-18 Hornet Top Gun Pilots, right at the height of the Top Gun era around 1988. He graduated flight school in 1988 and was assigned to the 75th Squadron. His Call sign was "Tex". In 1991 he was part of an exchange with the US Airforce and was sent to Join the VFMA 323 Squadron in California ("The Death Rattlers"), to train landing on Air Craft Carriers. In that same year Geoff (and one of his best mates from the VFMA 323 Squadron) were found Murdered in a Hotel in the Desert. It was covered up as a suicide, and despite Four Corners and 60 Minutes attempting to investigate.... they were shut down by US Govt Agencies and forced to abandon the investigation. Geoffs surviving sisters have been informing me of the story, and it needs to be turned into a movie, done by an Australian Production company. Incredible stuff. In any case The family have held onto Geoffs Items since 1991 and 30 years later its time to let go. This lot includes Geoffs Training Conversion note book, his air to air, and air to Command Note book, his Pilots log books, his desk Lable, His Coffee Mug, the Desktop Model Hornet he had on his desk (the exact model he flew), his uniform badges, His Two Squadron Patches, A Large Framed Photo of Geoff Flying a training Mission in an FA18 Hornet, His Sterling Silver "Geoff" Ring, a Qantas in Flight magazine article on Geoff, his squadron 75 Magpie Chest Pin, and even the Triathlon Medal he Won marked Geoff "Tex" Bryant to the obverse. Fragments of the life an Australian Military Hero.
