M.B.E. Medal Awarded to Miss Jan Townsend 1921 - Interesting Read
This is a "Member of the British Empire" Bronze medal awarded to a lady named Jan Townsend in 1921, and it was presented to her by King George Vth .Jan lived in a flat in Battersea London. Jan worked at the foreign office as assistant Librarian for 6 or 7 years from the start of WWI. It was remarked in the newspaper that she was "so efficient, her knowledge of foreign languages is so great, and her personality so pleasing that it is the greatest regret that she is seen to be making way for a man who has the right to the work". She was made an M.B.E in recognition of her services.
The 1921 Newspaper article on Jan goes with this Medal. Incredible.
