Original Oil - The Sinking of the Centaur in 1943 by Japanese Submarine
This is a stunning oil on board and as dramatic as they can come. This painting is of the fatal sinking of Australian hospital ship (the centaur) in ay 1943 during the second world war.
On 18th of May 1943 the Centaur was sailing to cairns when it was struck by a Japanese submarine just south of Moreton island Qld. This sinking killed 270 people and the ship sank in just 3 minutes. it is an iconic tragedy in Australia's history and this painting sure does reflect that.
It is oil on board, signed by the artist... a very good piece. The frame measures 98cm by 74cm high
