Interesting stuff. Sir James was in Persia in 1926. And in this little back alley store he found an old tin with these carved Astrology Seals inside. These were found in some farming land just outside of a town called Isfahan. Sir James researched this land and found up until the 18th Century it was the founding city for a religion from When Jesus was born that believed in Astrology. Sir John in his research believes the three wise men who visited Jesus in the Manger in Bethlehem were the Priests of this religion (called "Magi") who were tracking the strange Star that night, and as they were astrologers carried these seals on a string with them at all time. He postulates that they may have handed those to an unsettled baby jesus when visiting, and these had been handed down generation after generation until they were lost in the dirt in a Ravaged Isfahan in the 18th Century. Love it.... this is why you come to auction... to buy the never seen... 2000 yr old Seals, with the wax.
