Two Antique Carved Ivory Changing Face Figures c1870
Changing Faces Ivory Carved Figurines. Amusing carved ivory and etched netsuke with rotating faces to show two sides of character. Each signed by artist. Both pieces are signed to the bottom in Japanese characters. No damage, bar one hairline down the back of the right one (as pictured). But it appears to be just an age hairline as these are 140 years old folks. These are also not just one colour ink highlighted, but a few different colours which is quite unusual. These measure approx 55mm high.
