A Hand Painted Indigenous Coolamon
A Coolamon is a traditional Aboriginal carrying vessel with curved sides. They are shaped like a canoe, which suggests the journey of life. They are traditionally used to support many points of that journey. The men would carve them out and hand paint them for the women to use.... carrying food, grain, water, things for a baby etc. They would also be hung from a tree to keep the contents safe while the women went to do other things. This is a beautifully Indigenous Painted Coolamon in excellent condition. This would make a very interesting Fruit Bowl. It measures 100cm long by 18cm wide
