This is a c1890 United States Indian Police Badge
The Indian Police was organised in 1880 (by John Q Tufts, the Indian Commissioner in Muskogee) to police the 5 Civilised Tribes - Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek, and Seminole nations. Their mission was to provide Justice Services and technical assistance to federally recognised indian Tribes. This was the badge for these recognised Indian Police Officers.
